A way out of forgiveness and retribution: According to Indian Philosophy, mainly Jainism and Buddhism, we should forgive everybody. But, why??

Metaphysics of Morals: The reason behind this theory of non-reaction is this that since whatever is happening to us is due to our karmas of past lives, therefore, we shouldn’t react to it, just to exhaust our Prarabdha karmas. Rather, we will be trapped in the vicious circle of Karmaphal. Now, the question is: who will prove that whatever is happening to us is definitely, fruits of our karmas. It may be so that, we have started a new set of karmas.

Further, Kant said that we should behave in that manner, so that it will become an universal law and everybody will be able to do the same. Now, is it possible that everybody will forgive everybody else? If it is possible, then also there will be two possibilities: one possibility is this that there will be Ramrajya, the ideal state of society and another possibility is this that there will be total state of anarchism because everyone will behave as he will want. Since, there wouldn’t be any fear of reaction, it will take the society into primitive age. If, everybody will start killing everybody, the result will be: memberless society. Is it the purpose of metaphysics of morals?

Also, it is not digestible to 95 to 99 percent of people, who are not ascetics, to forgive everybody who wrongs him. Therefore, there must be a way out of these two extreme views of : non- reaction or violent, aggressive reaction.

Solution: People shouldn’t wrong others, nor should they tolerate anything unjust being done to them. Now, the question is how they should react? Suppose for the moment that while driving on road, someone collides his wehicle with your’s. Then, the usual reaction in road rage cases is, the victim will start beating the culprit and in some cases, they will kill, the culprit. Now, what will be the result? Butterfly effect. It will trap you in the vicious circle of Karmaphal for this whole life and after life, also. This one wrong reaction will spoil your life for ever. But, if you will come out of your wehicle calmly and note down the wehicle number of the culprit, and call up police. You will be able to register a case against him and punish him judiciously, according to his crime. This will give you immense satisfaction, neither regret of tolerating crime nor the ripple effect of wrong reaction: your spoiled life. This is the golden yoga of the two extremes.
